College Football World Reacts To Epic FSU vs. Notre Dame Game

How many people had Florida State vs. Notre Dame as the best game of college football’s opening weekend?

Not many – if any.

However, the Seminoles and the Fighting Irish delivered an instant classic on Sunday night. Notre Dame, the country’s No. 9 team, topped Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium, 41-38, in overtime.

The Fighting Irish led for the majority of the contest, but a McKenzie Milton-fueled comeback forced overtime for the Seminoles.

Milton, who suffered a catastrophic leg injury at UCF in 2018, made his return to the college football world on Sunday night. He was placed into the game late in the second half and led the Seminoles to a big comeback, forcing overtime.

However, Florida State missed its field goal attempt in overtime, while Notre Dame’s kicker drilled his, securing the victory.

This one will be tough for Florida State fans to stomach, but the Seminoles have a lot of reasons for optimism moving forward.

“Tell ya what regardless of how this game ends..FSU has come LIGHT YEARS from where they’ve been last couple years. This team is fighting and playing as a team. And a lot more difference makers on both sides of the ball. Not to mention 13 has improved in all phases under center,” ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit tweeted.

It will be interesting to see where Florida State goes from here, especially at the quarterback position. The Seminoles could go with both Travis and Milton moving forward, although two-quarterback systems are pretty rare.

Both quarterbacks were very supportive of each other on Sunday night.

Herbstreit had some major praise for Notre Dame, too.

Hopefully we get a lot more games like this moving forward.

Week 1 of the 2021 college football season will wrap up on Monday night, when Ole Miss takes on Louisville.
