Luke Fickell and the Cincinnati Bearcats made a strong staff addition on Tuesday morning.

Cincinnati football is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history. The Bearcats earned a trip to the College Football Playoff following a 13-0 regular-season and win in the AAC Championship.

Fickell isn’t planning on a lone trip to the playoff. He believes this is just the start, and his latest coaching hire proves it.

Cincinnati hired former Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs on Tuesday. He’ll be the Bearcats’ new defensive backs coach.

“Sources: University of Cincinnati expected to hire former Ohio State DC Kerry Coombs as the school’s new corners coach and special teams coordinator,” reports college football insider Pete Thamel. “He’s a former UC assistant who spent more than two decades coaching high school football in Cincinnati.”

This is a massive pickup for the Cincinnati Bearcats. They aren’t going away anytime soon.

“This is huge… great coach, great recruiter, even better person,” one fan said.

“Former Ohio State assistant coach Kerry Coombs is returning to Cincinnati as the Bearcats’ cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator – the same roles that new Ohio State safeties coach Perry Eliano previously held at Cincinnati,” said Ohio State insider Dan Hope.

“I think this is a great move and I’m happy Coombs is going to continue to coach,” a fan said. “We were critical of him this year and last but as a play caller, not as a coach.”

“Great move by Luke Fickell,” someone commented. “And even better place for Kerry Coombs where he built his name up to be one of the greatest OHIO hs coaches in history of hs football.”

Kerry Coombs is one of the most respected defensive coaches in the sport.

Cincinnati got a good one.
