UCF star quarterback Dillon Gabriel revealed some crushing injury news on Saturday.

On the final play of last night’s loss to Louisville, the Knights QB took a big hit from an unblocked Cardinals defender coming up the middle. To add insult to injury, Gabriel’s pass tipped off his receiver’s hands and fell into the hands of a Louisville defender who returned the ball for a game-winning touchdown.

Just one play before this decisive pick-six, UCF collected an interception of their own with the score tied at 35-35 and less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock.

Not only did this play decide the game’s 42-35 final score, it also had some major implications for the rest of the Knight’s season.

Gabriel announced that he suffered a broken clavicle and has “no timetable” for his return.

“I’d like to start by thanking my family, friends, coaches, teammates and fans for all the love,” he wrote in a statement on Twitter. “Unfortunately, in last night’s game I fractured my clavicle. I thank God that I will not need surgery, but at this point there is no timetable for my return. Thank you to everyone for their support during this time. I know I’ll be back better than ever.

Go Knights. Charge On.”

The college football world reacted to this crushing news for UCF.

Through last night’s thrilling contest, Gabriel threw 22/29 for 188 yards and three touchdowns before his game-sealing interception. The Hawaii native has been stellar throughout his collegiate career, logging 8,041 yards and 70 touchdowns through just over two seasons with UCF.

As a projected 2022 NFL Draft pick, this could be the final season of Gabriel’s UCF career. Last night’s interception would be a very unfitting end to his outstanding career with the Knights.

While there’s no timetable on his return, hopefully Gabriel can get back on the field before the end of this season.
