College football odds: Bettor wagers $10,000 on Kansas to win 3 or more games

A three-win season is extremely disappointing for most college football programs and can lead to a coaching staff getting dismissed at the end of the season. At Kansas, a three-win season is a sign of progress. The Jayhawks have been the worst Power Five football program over the past decade and haven’t won more than three games in a season since 2009.

And even three-win seasons haven’t been all that common in the 13 years since Mark Mangino’s team went 5-7 in his final year at the school. Kansas has won three games just five times and its last three-win season came in 2019. That was Les Miles’ first season with the program. Miles was fired following a winless 2020 and the revelations of allegations surrounding inappropriate conduct at LSU.

But there’s reason to believe that Kansas can hit the over in 2022 and win three games (or more) in Lance Leipold’s third season with the program. The Jayhawks showed legitimate progress in 2021 with a win over Texas and one-possession losses to TCU and West Virginia to end the season.

The Jayhawks should start the season 1-0 on Friday with a win over FCS opponent Tennessee Tech. And Duke is on the schedule in Week 4. The Blue Devils could be one of the worst Power Five teams in college football this season and Kansas will likely be favored at home. With wins over Tennessee Tech and Duke, Kansas just needs to pull off one Big 12 win the rest of the season. That doesn’t sound too impossible, does it? Just ask Texas.
