College football is not the same college football we grew up watching. NIL and transfer portal rules have changed everything, and some fans aren’t happy about it. FS1’s Colin Cowherd has a message for those complaining fans:

“The ‘College football is dead’ crowd [laughing emoji]. USC, Miami, Texas getting back near the top is GREAT for the sport,” he said on Twitter. “Always an element of society that immediately leans into fatalism. Yawn. Some tweaks w NIL are eventually coming. Until then [peace sign emoji].”

First off, USC, Miami and Texas are nowhere “near the top” of the college football mountain right now. The Trojans went 4-8 last season. The Hurricanes were 7-5. Texas went 5-7. It’s going to take a while until each becomes a college football power again.

The good news is recent college football NIL and transfer rules should accelerate rebuilding processes Lincoln Riley and Mario Cristobal are currently orchestrating.

Shortly after Riley left Oklahoma for USC, standout quarterback Caleb Williams joined him. Cristobal, meanwhile, brought a few of his Oregon players with him and hauled in a strong recruiting class.

So what’s the problem? The problem is the rich are only getting richer. In a sport lacking parity, it’s only going to get worse from here on out.

Cowherd, USC, Miami and Texas won’t complain. Neither will teams like Alabama or LSU. But that doesn’t mean the sport as a whole isn’t hurting from recent changes.

Unless the NCAA steps in and implements more guidelines for teams and players to follow, the sport will be a chaotic mess.
