Coastal Georgia Buccaneers basketball sponsors high school All-Star Game at Savannah State

The Coastal Georgia Buccaneers, a professional team and member of The Basketball League, is looking to establish a foothold in a Savannah community known for its love affair with hoops.

The team begins its season on Saturday, March 23, and is already making an impact in the Hostess City as the sponsor of the Coastal Georgia All-Star Senior Showcase, featuring top prep players throughout the Coastal Empire.

The games will be played on the Buccaneers’ home court at Savannah State University and will precede the Buccaneers’ home opener against the Rocket City Flight, which tips off at 7 p.m. The girls game begins at 2:30 p.m. and the boys play at 4:30 p.m.

The teams were selected by Asher Johnson and Spencer Walden, content creators known for their sports work in the area. Walden picked the Savannah squads, while Johnson selected the Coastal Georgia teams.

Prescott Mack, the Managing Partner of the Buccaneers, said the team is excited about getting its season started.

"We want to become part of the fabric of the community," Mack said a team press conference Thursday. "I was at the Savannah Shootout (at Enmarket Arena in November) and thought it would be a great idea to sponsor another game showcasing the high school basketball talent we have in the Savannah area. Our biggest goal is to use the platform of basketball to serve our city."

Mack said having players visit local schools and encouraging people to chase their dreams while interacting with the team are part of the organization's plan. The team includes players like Avery Joyner, a former SSU and Bethesda standout, and Trevion Lamar, the former Jenkins star.

The high school showcase games will have star power of their own. Daniel Jackson of Calvary and Brianna Brooker of Jenkins will coach the Savannah Girls team that features standouts like Johnson's Amayah Hamilton and Ernajah Mallard of Savannah High.

The boys game features Savannah stars such as Johnson's Josh Quarterman, New Hampstead's Toland Daughtrey, Jermaine Edwards of Savannah and Jeremiah James of Jenkins, while the Coastal Empire squad features four players from a strong Portal team.

Tickets for the showcase and the home opener are available online at tickets.cgbucs912.com. Fans who purchase tickets to the event can buy tickets to both events at a discounted rate. The first 100 fans who attend the showcase will also receive a free Coastal Georgia Buccaneers T-shirt.
