Coastal Carolina University has a new football coach.

The school announced on Sunday afternoon it will hire N.C. State offensive coordinator Tim Beck to replace Jamey Chadwell, who is leaving to take the head coaching job at Liberty.

“Welcome to Teal Nation, Coach Tim Beck,” Coastal posted to Twitter.

ESPN insider Pete Thamel reported earlier in the day that Coastal had narrowed in on Beck.

Said Thamel via Twitter: “Sources: NC State OC Tim Beck is finalizing a five-year deal to make him Coastal Carolina’s next head coach. Beck is finalizing a five-year contract that will pay him nearly $1 million per year.”

Beck has been N.C. State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since the 2020 season. Before that, Beck had stops at Texas, Ohio State, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri State, among others. He served as the offensive coordinator for the Longhorns, Buckeyes and Cornhuskers.

Coastal Carolina will officially introduce Beck as their new coach at a press conference Monday afternoon.

“I fully embrace the expectations for how we will run this program each and every day,” Beck said Sunday through a Coastal Carolina news release. “Coastal is a special place with special people. We are humbled and honored to become a part of the Chanticleer family and the Conway community.”

During his time at Nebraska, Beck and Coastal Carolina football administrator Joe Moglia spent time on Bo Pelini’s staff together.

Said Moglia through a statement from CCU: “I have known Tim since my return to coaching 13 years ago at Nebraska. He is an excellent coach and coordinator, and has always had the best interest of his players, coaches, and school at heart. I take a lot of pride in what our program has accomplished in the last 10 years. Tim will do a great job of building on that.

“I also want to thank Jamey for the remarkable contribution he has made here at Coastal.”

Chadwell had Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Championship for the second time in as many years this fall. He compiled a 39-22 record in his four years in Conway.

The Chanticleers were ranked in The Associated Press Top 25 in each of the last three seasons — peaking at No. 9 during the 2020 campaign and finishing ranked No. 14 nationally.

Chadwell made $900,000 annually at Coastal, according to USA Today’s coaching contracts database.
