Coastal Carolina football starting quarterback Grayson McCall will miss three to six weeks due to a foot injury, the school announced Wednesday.

McCall, two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, suffered the injury during the third quarter of the Appalachian State game last week, a school statement said.

CCU coach Jamey Chadwell addressed the injury during his weekly press conference Wednesday.

“Grayson will be out three to six weeks,” Chadwell told reporters, according to a Tweet from SportsTalkSC. “We’ve spent the last five days visiting with doctors to see if he could play.”

The injury timetable should mean McCall misses the remainder of the regular season. Coastal (8-1) is bowl-eligible but is still fighting for a spot in the Sun Belt Conference championship game.

The Chanticleers host Southern Miss in CCU’s home finale Saturday, then have an out-of-conference road trip to Virginia. Coastal wraps up the regular season Nov. 26 with a road game against Sun Belt foe James Madison.

McCall, a junior, is widely projected as an NFL prospect and is a major component to the Chants’ success. He’s completing 68.9% of his throws this season and has 2,314 passing yards and 21 touchdowns to one interception. He’s also fourth on the team in rushing with 165 yards and four more scores.
