It’s been a year since we saw Coach O on the sideline, but Ed Orgeron remains around the game.

Recently, the former LSU head coach took a visit to Notre Dame with his sons, who are also in the coaching field, and spoke to reporters about Marcus Freeman; while also taking a trip down memory lane in regards to his various battles in South Bend.

“I interviewed Marcus [Freeman] at LSU, and I really really respect him,” Orgeron said. “Wanted to come up here. I have three sons coaching. Wanted to show them what Notre Dame was. First time I get to come here and enjoy being around campus. I tell you what, you know, going into that stadium and having great battles and great memories.”

“Yesterday, when we drove up to the stadium to see the locker room to the right. I’m used to going to the left,” Coach O continued. “I enjoy being here. I wanted to see Marcus and the staff, bring my sons up here. We’re here all week and just have a good time. Fun to be up here.”

Orgeron was also asked about his future when it comes to coaching after a reporter wondered if he had to fight the itch to help out at spring practice. And while he didn’t rule it out, he admitted the off-time was needed. He will not be coaching in 2022.

“Yes I did, yeah,” Coach O chuckled. “I wanted to jump in the drill. I could feel myself getting back, but you know what? I’m enjoying the year off for sure. I needed to do it.”

Orgeron was fired following the 2021 season after leading LSU on one of the best runs in college football history in 2019. A beloved assistant, The 60-year-old holds a 67-47 record as a head coach.
