Co-owner of Ray Mancaluso Roofing pleads guilty to tax crime

CAMDEN – A Woodbury woman didn’t tell the IRS about more than $861,000 in taxable income from a family business, authorities say.

That allegedly allowed Maria Macaluso, 57, to avoid almost $226,000 in federal income taxes over a five-year period, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey.

Macaluso, who also allegedly concealed $2.5 million in gross receipts, has admitted guilt to filing false income tax returns from 2017 through 2021, court records show.

Macaluso filed the tax returns as bookkeeper for her family firm, according to a charging document.

A LinkedIn page identifies Macaluso as an owner of Ray Macaluso Roofing in Deptford.

Under a plea agreement, Macaluso is to pay restitution of $225,780, as well as a potential civil assessment, to the IRS.

Macaluso entered her guilty plea April 16 before U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler in Camden federal court. He scheduled sentencing for Aug. 19.

An attorney for Macaluso declined to comment.
