Clyde city departments benefit from $20,000 donation

CLYDE - VFW Post 3343 donated $20,000 this week to purchase equipment for the Clyde Fire Department and Police Department.

VFW Trustee Mo Marks said it has been several years since the post had been able to make a sizeable donation from its charity fund. In past years, he said the VFW Post has been able to make donations to support the Sandusky County and the Clyde K9 units. "Many years ago," Marks said.

Clyde Police Chief Monti Campbell said this donation came at the right time. "At the end of the year we had some unexpected expenses."

"We're working on a new records management system," he said, noting the $10,000 his department received from the VFW will go toward funding that project.

The new system, once completed, will bring the department's record system up to date.

"All our reporting, everyone in the county will be on the same system," he said about the Sandusky County Sheriff's Department, Fremont Police and others. Campbell said the exceptions will be Bellevue Police which will be linked to Huron County and Green Springs Police which is connected to Seneca County.

Clyde Fire to add Ram to rescue equipment

Clyde Fire Chief Paul Fiser said the $10,000 his department received will provide a needed piece of equipment on the south side of the tracks.

The funds will go to purchase a Ram tool which will be used with Jaws of Life hydraulic extraction equipment.

"We have one on Route 20, so this will be one on the south side of the tracks," Fiser said.

The City of Clyde is divided north and south by Norfolk Southern Railway and the fire department has its main station on McPherson Highway (U.S. 20) north of the tracks. A second smaller station and several fire trucks are located at the municipal building on Main Street south of the railroad tracks.
