4th lockdown at Clovis West High in less than a week. Classes hadn’t started this time

THE LATEST: Finding Clovis West ‘swatter’ a ‘huge challenge,’ FBI agent says

Clovis West High School was locked down again Thursday morning after another threat to campus safety.

The threatening phone call came in before school had started and officers went to the school at Millbrook and Teague avenues to check for any threat, Fresno police Lt. Bill Dooley told The Bee.

Police in an update on the department’s social media said the campus was cleared and there were no injuries: “Everyone is safe. We will continue to investigate the source of the call we received. There was never a suspect on campus with a firearm.”

It’s the latest lockdown for the Clovis Unified school, following threats that police have previously called pranks on Friday of last week and again on Monday and Wednesday this week.

Clovis West emailed parents at 8:16 a.m. Thursday regarding the latest situation and said that “normal operations” had resumed.

“Before 8 a.m. today, we were notified that law enforcement had received another non credible, threatening phone call with similarities to those received previously. This time, the call came before the start of classes and officers and those investigating these prank calls, were able to confirm that our campus was secure and we were able to continue normal operations,” the email said.

The latest lockdown comes after a meeting Wednesday evening when district, school and law enforcement officials gave an update on campus safety.

“As we shared last night,” the email Thursday morning said, “a combined effort of federal, state and local law enforcement are working on this investigation and believe that the calls are coming from outside of the country.

“We will continue to take any potential risk to our school with the same level of seriousness, and appreciate the quick responses by law enforcement to allow us to return to normal operations as rapidly as possible after confirming our campus is secure. Officers will remain on campus today to provide support to our staff and students.”

Fort Washington Elementary School, across Millbrook Avenue to the west of Clovis West, was briefly on a shelter in place Thursday morning.
