Clinton boys basketball hires Northwest Rankin coach Joshua Luckett to lead program

The Clinton Public School District announced on Tuesday that Joshua Luckett has been hired as Clinton boys basketball coach.

Luckett was the coach at Northwest Rankin.

“I’m very excited about this new opportunity at Clinton," Luckett said in a school release. "Thanks to Dr. Fortenberry and Judd Boswell for the chance to lead the boy’s basketball program. I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence here while providing student-athletes with the necessary tools to succeed on and off the court.”

Luckett replaces Leonard Taylor, who stepped down for a new role as assistant principal at the high school for the 2024-25 school year.

The Arrows finished last season with a 23-7 record and an appearance in the 2024 MHSAA Class 7A state final before losing to Meridian 54-50.

Luckett helped lead the Cougars to a 2023 MHSAA 6A state title. His teams recorded 20-win seasons in 2020, 2022 and 2023, winning back-to-back district championships in 2022 and 2023.

“We believe that his experience and dedication will be a tremendous asset to our boys basketball program as well as our overall Athletic Leadership,” Clinton athletic director Judd Boswell said. "We are confident that Coach Luckett’s leadership will inspire our student-athletes to achieve their full potential, and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our athletic department and the entire school community.”
