Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox live game score, updates and highlights

Monday's home opener couldn't have gone any better for the Guardians. Like the rest of the area, they watched the total solar eclipse on the field at Progressive Field and then went on to shutout the Chicago White Sox.

The Guardians' 8-2 start entering Tuesday marks their best opening 10-game stretch in a season since 2011.

Logan Allen takes the hill opposite Mike Soroka for the White Sox tonight. Allen has been off to a quality start to the 2024 and will look to continue that against a light-hitting White Sox lineup.

Check back here for updates and analysis as the Guardians take on the White Sox Tuesday night. Here is some pregame information.

Guardians lose to White Sox

The Guardians went down in order in the ninth at the hands of Michael Kopech and fell to the White Sox 7-5. Jose Ramirez struck out looking to end it. That drops their record to 8-3 through 11 games.

Guardians enter ninth inning trailing White Sox

The Guardians will enter the bottom of the ninth trailing the White Sox 7-5. The top of the lineup is due up with Steven Kwan, Andres Gimenez and Jose Ramirez.

White Sox take the lead over Guardians in the eighth inning

The White Sox again have the lead.

With Scott Barlow now on the mound and two on, Dominic Fletcher lined a ball into the right-center gap that got by Ramon Laureano. He did throw out Fletcher trying to stretch it into a triple, but both runs scored, putting Chicago up 7-5.

Hunter Gaddis throws another gem of an inning, Guardians can't convert in seventh

Hunter Gaddis is having a heck of a start to his 2024 season. He threw a scoreless inning in the seventh with two strikeouts, which now gives him 6 1/3 scoreless innings to start the campaign.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Guardians had a chance to break the deadlock but couldn't convert. With two on and one out, Tyler Freeman and Will Brennan were both struck out by White Sox reliever Steven Wilson to end the threat and keep it at a 5-5 score.

Guardians, White Sox still tied: Nick Sandlin preserves tied score with strikeout in sixth inning

After Eli Morgan pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning, Nick Sandlin was called on for the sixth. And fans at Progressive Field had to hold their breath a bit.

The White Sox put the go-ahead run on third with two outs, but Sandlin struck out Martin Maldonado to end the inning and take it to the bottom of the sixth, still deadlocked 5-5.

Logan Allen's day is done after four innings

The Guardians are turning to their bullpen to open the fifth inning.

Logan Allen's day is done after four innings and five runs allowed, all in the first inning. He did stretch it to four innings, saving the bullpen from an extended day.

Eli Morgan will take the mound for the fifth with the score tied 5-5.

Guardians, White Sox score: Steven Kwan, Jose Ramirez two-out RBIs tie it up

All with two outs, the Guardians have come back to tie it in the fourth inning.

With two outs, Ramon Laureano stole two bases to put himself at third. Steven Kwan then fought off a single to left field to make it 5-4.

After Andres Gimenez beat out an infield single, Jose Ramirez roped a single to left field to tie it 5-5. A Josh Naylor pop-out ended the inning, but the Guardians have erased Chicago's five-run first inning.

Bottom 3rd: Tyler Freeman RBI brings Guardians closer

The Guardians are getting to Mike Soroka, they just still have some work to do.

With two on in the third, Tyler Freeman hit an RBI to left-center field that scored Jose Ramirez, slicing the White Sox lead to 5-3.

Yoan Moncada injury confirmed as left adductor strain

The White Sox have announced that Yoan Moncada left Tuesday night's game against the Guardians with a left adductor strain, which is effectively a groin injury. He'll be re-evaluated tomorrow.

Bottom 3rd: Andres Gimenez lines into double play

Sometimes, the ball just doesn't bounce your way — so to speak.

In the third, Steven Kwan singled to lead off the inning. Andres Gimenez followed by lining a ball down the first base line. A few feet higher, and it's possibly an RBI double. Instead, it landed in Andrew Vaughn's glove, and Kwan didn't have time to get back to the base, resulting in a double play.

Top 3rd: Logan Allen rebounds with two scoreless innings

After a disastrous first inning, Logan Allen has seemingly settled down, tossing two scoreless innings to at least hold the White Sox at bay with a 5-2 lead. That'll be appreciated by the Cleveland bullpen if he can stay out there a bit and at least eat up some innings.

Top 2nd: Yoan Moncada injury forces his exit from White Sox vs. Guardians game

White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada is exiting the game, and the White Sox will be holding their breath waiting to see if he sustained a major leg injury.

Moncada hit a ground ball to third baseman Jose Ramirez, who made a nice play to range to his right and throw Moncada out. But as Moncada neared first base, he came up limp and crumbled to the ground. It appears to be some sort of a left leg injury. Moncada was helped off the field.

The White Sox still lead 5-2.

Bottom 1st: Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor hits two-run home run to cut into White Sox lead

Well, you can't hit a five-run home run in baseball and instantly erase a five-run deficit. But you can cut into it.

Josh Naylor has the Guardians on the board after he drilled a two-run home run to right field to slice the White Sox lead to 5-2 in the first inning. It feels like this one might be headed for a slugfest.

That was Naylor's second home run of the season. He's looking to build off of his strong 2023 and now has a .934 OPS in 2024.

Top 1st: White Sox crushing Logan Allen with five-run first inning

Remember all that stuff about Logan Allen getting off to a great start this season? Well, forget that. The White Sox are jumping all over him in the first inning.

Logan Allen walked the game's first batter, and things have gone downhill fast since.

The White Sox rattled off four consecutive hits, including one double, to take a 3-0 lead with nobody out.

Allen then recorded the first out of the inning, but it was on a fly ball to the warning track in left-center field.

Kevin Pillar then doubled home two more runs to break it open and give the White Sox a five-run first inning lead.

That's a rough start.
