Cleveland Guardians vs. Baltimore Orioles recap: O's earn series split
CLEVELAND — After winning the first two games of a series between two first-place teams entering Thursday, the Guardians look to rebound from Saturday's loss in Sunday's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles at Progressive Field.
Gavin Williams, who has been working his way back from the injured list after missing the first several months of the season, takes the mound opposite Orioles ace and All-Star Game starter Corbin Burnes.

Guardians fall to Orioles
The O's offense came to life, and the Guardians fell for the second consecutive day by a score of 9-5. They'll play the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game series starting Monday.
Adley Rutschman adds third RBI of the day, O's build on lead over Guardians
Adley Rutschman now has a three-RBI day with that single back up the middle to give the O's another insurance run, bringing the score to 9-5 in the eighth.
Ryan Mountcastle, Adley Rutschman add to Orioles lead
This game has had a yo-yo effect, and the O's have again extended their lead.
Against Nick Sandlin and the Guardians bullpen, Ryan Mountcastle's RBI single and Adley Rutschman's RBI double in the sixth have given Baltimore an 8-5 lead over Cleveland.
Josh Naylor launches 3-run home run off Corbin Burnes
In one swing, it's a one-run game.
With two runners on and two out in the fifth inning, Josh Naylor crushed a Corbin Burnes offering 420 feet for a no-doubt, three-run home run to center field. Naylor knew it was gone the second it left his bat, too, as he admired it for a second before flipping his bat.
That was Naylor's 24th home run of the season, and the Guardians now trail 6-5 entering the sixth.
This is the first time all season Burnes as allowed five runs in a single outing (four are earned, though it was due to his own error).
Gunnar Henderson drills two-run home run
The Orioles are teeing off on Gavin Williams.
Gunnar Henderson lined a two-run home run to right-center field, and the Orioles are hitting Williams hard today. The O's lead 6-2 heading to the Guardians' half of the fourth.
Jackson Holliday hits career home run No. 2; Orioles lead Guardians in fourth inning
Jackson Holliday has hit his second career home run, this one a solo shot off Gavin Williams to right field that gives the O's a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning.
Corbin Burnes error on Jose Ramirez play brings Guardians to within one run of Orioles
The Guardians have cut the lead 3-2 thanks to a bit of fortune as the result of Jose Ramirez putting pressure on Baltimore's defense.
With a runner on second, Ramirez lined a ball back up the middle that would have been an RBI single, but Burnes was able to get his glove on it and knock it down enough to keep it in the infield, though it rolled away from him. Burnes slid, fielded it and tried to turn and throw Ramirez out, but the ball went into the Orioles' dugout, and Steven Kwan was able to score, making it a 3-2 game.
Adley Rutschman hit in the groin with baseball
Adley Rutschman is gonna need a minute or two.
Rutschman was hit with a foul ball off the bat of Lane Thomas in a very unfortunate location.
Rutschman is staying in the game, but he's in obvious discomfort and was checked on by a trainer.
Burnes then recorded his 1,000th career strikeout later in the at-bat.
Steven Kwan RBI single cuts into Orioles lead
Daniel Schneemann stole second base thanks to nobody covering the bag, and the Guardians took advantage via a Steven Kwan RBI single to cut Baltimore's lead to 3-1.
Kwan then stole second base himself.
Guardians, Orioles score: Baltimore adds onto lead in third inning
The Orioles tacked on two more runs against Gavin Williams via an Adley Rutschman sacrifice fly to center field and later an Eloy Gimenez RBI single, making it a 3-0 advantage over Cleveland.
Coming back from a 3-run deficit against Burnes is a daunting task for any offense.
Ryan O'Hearn gives Orioles early lead over Guardians
The Guardians shifted (as much as they could under the new rules, at least) against Orioles left-handed hitter Ryan O'Hearn, so O'Hearn sent a Gavin Williams offering down the left-field line that went for an RBI double, scoring Gunnar Henderson all the way from first base.
The O's lead 1-0 after the first inning.
