Cleveland Browns adding Jeff Driskel to provide depth at quarterback

BEREA — The Browns added quarterback Jeff Driskel to their active roster to provide some depth to the position.

Driskel, 30, has been on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. He was on the Cardinals' active roster this season in Week 9 when they lost to the Browns in Cleveland.

To make room for Driskel on the 53-man roster, the Browns waived defensive end Sam Kamara.

The former University of Florida and Louisiana Tech product was originally a sixth-round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. However, he didn't appear in a regular-season NFL game until 2018, when he played in nine games and started five for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Driskel played one season in Cincinnati before making one-year stops with the Detroit Lions (2019) and Denver Broncos (2020). He spent the past two seasons with the Houston Texans, making two starts in eight games.

In 23 career games with 11 starts, Driskel has completed 216 of 365 passes for 2,228 yards with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Driskel joins Joe Flacco and P.J. Walker in the Browns quarterback room, with all three on the active roster. The Browns have placed both Deshaun Watson (shoulder) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) on injured reserve.
