An 18-year student at Clemson University has been found dead, the Pickens County coroner’s office reported Friday morning.

The student was identified as Joseph McPartland, of Roswell, Ga. He was living in a freshman dormitory.

His body was found at a 7-Eleven on the Old Greenville Highway in the Clemson area, said a news release by Pickens County coroner Heather Harrison.

The student was pronounced dead Monday at 3:15 pm. Harrison said.

There was no explanation about cause of death or why the death had not been reported sooner.

The death is under investigation by the Clemson police department and the Pickens County coroner’s office.

A Clemson spokesman said McPartland was an engineering major.

“We were deeply saddened to learn of Joseph’s passing,” said Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students L. Christopher Miller. “He was a joy to all those who knew him. The Clemson community sends thoughts and prayers to his family and friends as they grieve this loss.”
