Civil War cannonball left at Michigan recycling center

Somebody forgot to look for the little triangle recycling symbol.

A live cannonball from the Civil War turned up at a recycling center in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Tuesday afternoon before workers evacuated the plant and a bomb squad removed the sphere, authorities said.

Staff at the Kent County Recycling Center stumbled on the explosive ball while sorting recyclables, according to the county’s public works department.

Kent County Commissioner Phil Skaggs said in a Facebook post: “DO NOT RECYCLE CANNONBALLS FROM ANY WAR!”

The disposal plant resumed operation on Wednesday.

In November, a live WWI grenade was found in a river in Grand Rapids.
