City of Milwaukee annual Christmas tree harvested, Wednesday

City workers harvested the annual city Christmas Tree Wednesday morning.

Each year, the City of Milwaukee requests a volunteer tree donation from the community.

This year, a 38-foot Colorado Blue Spruce was donated by Denise Blue of N 74th St.

This year's tree is 7 feet taller than last year's.

After the tree was cut down, it received a Milwaukee Police escort to Fiserv Forum where it will remain through the Christmas season.

The tree, illuminated by the We Energies Foundation, will soon be decorated by David Caruso, a Milwaukee entertainer and style expert.

Crews with the City of Milwaukee Public Works place the 38-foot tall Colorado Blue Spruce tree before as part of the harvesting of the annual City Christmas tree which was transported to its final location on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, where it will be on display at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The tree was donated by Denise Blue from her home on North 74th Street.

The Deer District will also temporarily be renamed "The Cheer District" per tradition.

The city, in partnership with Black Husky Brewing, is taking the boughs of the tree to assist in the creation of a beer. The proceeds from that beer will go toward the Milwaukee Urban Forestry Fund.

This year marks the 110th anniversary of the Christmas tree lighting, making it the second longest-running official tree in the U.S., just behind New York City.

A public tree lighting ceremony at the Cheer District is scheduled for Nov. 17.
