INDIANAPOLIS – Cincinnati Bengals director of personnel Duke Tobin and head coach Zac Taylor took to the podium at the NFL combine to field a number of questions about the status of their football team.

One of the first topics addressed was quarterback Joe Burrow and his health. Burrow underwent season-ending wrist surgery at the end of November 2023. Tobin and Taylor provided an update on his rehab progress with the offseason program around the corner.

Joe Burrow recovery update

“As far as I know, it's going really well,” Tobin said. “He's been around the building a lot, rehabbing. He's Joe, so you know that a hundred percent effort is going to go into it. He's focused on it. All the reports that we've gotten have been very positive, so we expect a full recovery and we expect him to continue being Joe.”

Burrow underwent surgery to repair a tear in the scapholunate ligament on his right wrist, sources told The Enquirer. Sources also indicate the timeline for return from the injury is four to six months. This ligament is in the middle of the wrist between the scaphoid and lunate bones. It’s an important wrist-stabilizing ligament.

When will Joe Burrow be back throwing?

Taylor was reluctant to put a timeline on when Burrow will begin throwing again as the injury took place on his throwing hand.

“Positive … everything has been positive,” Taylor said of Burrow’s rehab. “Everything has been on schedule. I think what I said up there on the podium was six years as a head coach, I've learned to not put timelines on these injuries. So, we're certainly encouraged everything has been positive, almost right on course and excited to get closer to the offseason so we have a better sense of exactly all the involvement that he's going to have day one of the offseason (program) but he's done everything he we've asked him to do post-surgery and he's doing everything he can to prepare himself.”

The Bengals begin their offseason workout program on April 15.
