Oklahoma State blows out Cincinnati via powerful second half | Replay, highlights

STILLWATER, Oklahoma – When it rains it pours as the University of Cincinnati football losing skid has hit six after Saturday night's loss to Oklahoma State 45-13. The defeat came on Oklahoma State's Homecoming. While the precipitation was a constant cold mist, the points came pouring in the second half from the "Pokes".

Six in a row is a first for Scott Satterfield as a head coach and the most consecutive losses for a UC team since 1998. That season Rick Minter's Bearcats lost nine straight before winning their final two games.

Oklahoma State held a 10-7 lead, then pulled away with 21 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Emory Jones was pulled for redshirt sophomore Brady Lichtenberg in the fourth quarter. Jones was 6-for-16 passing for 117 yards with one interception with 33 yards on the ground.

Lichtenberg did engineer a touchdown drive with a scoring pass to Aaron Turner in the fourth quarter.

Both Myles Montgomery and Corey Kiner were also pulled from the game. Montgomery didn't play after halftime after gaining 90 yards. Kiner finished with 79 yards. With Ethan Wright and Ryan Montgomery both banged up, Shaun Thomas was at running back for UC late in the game.

A jolly night for Ollie

Ollie Gordon II after gaining 282 yards against West Virginia last week, had 271 against the Bearcats for two touchdowns. Alan Bowman added a couple of touchdown passes and was 17-for-34 for 286 yards for the Cowboys who go to 6-2 (4-1 Big 12).

UC is now 2-6 (0-5 Big 12).

Groundhog Day

The game began with a familiar tone. Oklahoma State top rusher Gordon ripped off an 11-yard run on his first carry. Then, in less than two minutes, Bowman had found no one around receiver Josiah Johnson who trotted in with a crowd-pleasing opening score.

UC would come back and move the ball with Emory Jones completing a 51-yard pass to Xzavier Henderson to get to the Cowboys' 13-yard line. They would get stopped at the 5-yard line and be forced to try a 23-yard Carter Brown field goal.

It clanked off the bar.

An explosive run

Before the opening quarter ended, Corey Kiner had a series of successful runs, then was subbed out for Myles Montgomery. The redshirt sophomore proceeded to face 63 yards to the orange end zone to tie the game, briefly silencing the crowd.

At half, the Bearcats had outgained the Cowboys on the ground 194-79.

Lost momentum

UC had the ball to start the second half but had to punt within two minutes. Oklahoma State responded with a quick drive ending in a 15-yard pass to Brennan Presley to up their lead to 17-7. It quickly went to 24-7 after an overthrown pass to Dee Wiggins was picked by Cameron Epps giving the Cowboys favorable field position again. Ollie Gordon scored from the 9-yard line and the Cowboys began to roll.

From there, the Cowboys feasted on the happy momentum and sent the Homecoming crowd home wet, but happy.

Double-duty Dan, the traveling man

Bearcat play-by-play voice Dan Hoard has an eventful 24 hours before him. The UC kickoff is at 7 p.m. Central (8 ET) in Stillwater and the Bengals play the 49ers at 1:25 Pacific Sunday (4:25 ET). Immediately after the UC game, he'll drive a little over an hour (possibly more with post-game traffic) to Oklahoma City.

His original plan was to get a couple of hours of sleep at an airport hotel then catch a 6 a.m. flight to Denver. However, Denver has snow, so he's actively searching for a change.

His original plans had him getting to San Jose then Levi's Stadium by 9:45 a.m. Pacific time (12:45 p.m. ET). That would two hours and 40 minutes prior to kickoff.

He says this is the most demanding trip this season. Either way, it should be a big day for coffee consumption Sunday.

Wet and chilly

The Stillwater weather is expected to be 41 degrees at kickoff, making it 33 degrees in wind chill terms. Rain appears intermittent but at less than a 20% chance throughout the game with showers picking up after midnight.
