Cillian Murphy has "no update" on the Peaky Blinders movie

Cillian Murphy has admitted he has "no update" on the state of the planned Peaky Blinders movie.

The hit BBC series has been confirmed to be getting a spin-off movie set during the events of the Second World War, though recent updates on the status of the film have been few and far between.

Speaking to the Radio Times ahead of the release of his new movie Oppenheimer, Tommy Shelby actor Murphy expressed enthusiasm for doing a film.

"That’s probably the worst thing about Peaky Blinders – getting asked about the movie all the time!" he joked. "I would love to do a movie if there’s more story to tell. I’ll wait and see but I have no update for you on that."

The latest words echo comments from May, with Murphy telling Rolling Stone at the time: "If there's more story there, I'd love to do it.

"But it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I'm really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more."

Peaky Blinders came to an end in 2022 after nine years on air, and last year creator Knight spoke a bit about what to expect from the big screen follow-up.

"I know exactly what's going to happen, I know what the story is and I'm writing at the moment," Knight told Metro.co.uk.

"It's a very specific story, that's based on a true story from the Second World War and will be told in the Peaky way."

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix. Oppenheimer is out now in cinemas
