Christopher Jones sentenced to 18 years to life in prison in killing of Eddie Johnson

A 31-year-old Akron man was sentenced on March 11 to 18 years to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to shooting and killing Eddie Johnson III, 42, two years ago.

Christopher Jones pleaded guilty to one count of murder and a three-year firearm specification, according to court documents. Summit County Common Pleas Judge Alison Breaux sentenced him to 15 years to life for the murder charge and three years for the specification.

He also pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, possession of a deadly weapon while under detention and receiving stolen property in three other cases.

As some of these sentences will be served at the same time, Jones will serve a total of 21 years to life, of which three years are mandatory, according to court documents.

Fatal shooting in Kenmore

Johnson was found dead in his home Dec. 18, 2022, in the 2300 block of 29th Street SW in Kenmore by his godbrother who then called the police.

The caller was checking on Johnson at the request of his mother and godmother who had not seen him in a few days.

Upon arriving at the home, the caller said the door appeared to be forced open. Johnson was lying on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds.
