Christian Yelich, CC Sabathia, Bill Hall and more on social media react to Brewers hires of Pat Murphy and Rickie Weeks

Did the Milwaukee Brewers hire not only their new manager in Pat Murphy for the short term but also their skipper of the future in Rickie Weeks on Wednesday?

That's what some on social media were wondering as the Brewers stayed in-house with the soon-to-be 65-year-old Murphy, who has been in the dugout for the past eight years as bench coach, and with former Brewers second baseman Weeks, 41, becoming his right-hand man as associate manager.

Reactions poured in across the baseball world to the hires following the departure of Craig Counsell to the rival Cubs, including from current and former players.

Christian Yelich appears to approve of the hire

Veteran left fielder Christian Yelich, who has been with Murphy for the last six seasons, posted a photo of the two after clinching the division championship this past season on his X account Tuesday a day after a report surfaced about Murphy's promotion.

Former Brewers react to Rickie Weeks' promotion

CC Sabathia, who returned to Milwaukee this summer to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the team's wild card team, gave his former teammate a shoutout.

"Congratulations!!" Sabathia wrote to Weeks in the comment section of the Brewers' Instagram post announcing the hire.

The two played together for just a few months after Sabathia was acquired in a blockbuster trade in July 2008.

Other former Brewers players from the 2000s like Bill Hall, Tony Gwynn Jr. and Junior Spivey also congratulated Weeks. Weeks succeeded Spivey as the Brewers' second baseman halfway through the 2005 season. Weeks was drafted by the Brewers in 2003 as the second overall pick and was part of the franchise's core that helped get Milwaukee back to the postseason for the first time in 26 years. He was an All Star in 2011.
