Chris Webber’s relationship with Michigan’s athletic department has been damaged for several years, but it appears the two sides are working out their differences.

Earlier this week, Webber opened up about his Michigan legacy in an interview with ESPN’s Myron Medcalf. During their conversation, the Fab Five star said that he received an apology from Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel.

Manuel wasn’t the athletic director for the Michigan Wolverines when the Fab Five was playing, but Webber appreciated what he had to say about that situation.

“I was told by the athletic director at the University of Michigan that he was sorry,” Webber told ESPN “And he wasn’t even there at the time [I was playing]. He told me that he did his research and that he needs to apologize. His exact words [were] he needs ‘to apologize to the 18-year-old Chris Webber because we didn’t protect him.'”

Weber also addressed his friendship with Jalen Rose. It sounds like they have a bit more work to do before they can officially put this issue behind them.

“There has been that rift because Jalen has decided to talk and I’ve said we should handle everything behind the scenes,” Webber said. “It was just, it’s an honor system. It’s a code. And he knows what that is, because that’s what we built the Fab Five on, and he did not adhere to that code multiple times. … All it takes is a 30-second conversation.”

Rose had plenty of things to say during ESPN’s 30 for 30 Fab Five documentary, released in 2011. Webber, meanwhile, didn’t participate in it.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of reception Webber receives this weekend when he’s inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
