Chris Pratt says his wife is "excited" about his Super Mario role

Chris Pratt has revealed he lives with with one of the biggest Super Mario Bros Movie fans there is: his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star sat with Digital Spy for the release of the computer- animated movie inspired by the video game franchise, admitting Schwarzenegger is "very, very excited" about his role as the iconic plumber hero.

"Out of everything I've done, this is the one thing that everyone I know is like, 'You're doing that? When's that coming out? Ooh, I've got to see that. Can I come to the premiere of that?'" Pratt said.

"My wife is very, very excited. She grew up playing, like, Yoshi's Story, and, you know, Mario Kart. She's very excited by it – and saw the movie, and loved it," he added.

Always Sunny's Charlie Day, who voices Mario's brother Luigi, said his and Pratt's sons are "very enthusiastic about the fact that we're in it".

Meanwhile, Pratt explained he tested Mario's voice around his son with ex-wife Anna Faris, saying: "I did the voice a lot with my son Jack. He'd hear it, and I'd test things on him."

The Jurassic World actor is a big Super Mario enthusiast, joking that all the time he spent playing as a kid was finally put to good use in the movie.

"I've been playing Mario since I was 9 years old. And, yeah, who knew? All those years, my parents said, 'Aren't you going to do something that could help you get a job one day?' I'm like, 'Hey, guess what? I'm doing it. This is research'."

Anya Taylor-Joy, who lends her voice to Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros Movie, agreed, admitting to use the "gaming as research" excuse a little too often while prepping for the role.

"I was like, 'Please don’t call me. It's a Sunday, and I have to go do research – gaming'," she said.

"It was a wonderful excuse. I don't think I'm allowed to use it again for a while, but I definitely took advantage of it."

The Super Mario Bros Movie is released in cinemas on April 5.
