Chipotle eyes Leland, plus upcoming road projects
Hello and welcome to the Brunswick Today newsletter brought to you by me, StarNews reporter Jamey Cross.
My younger brother could probably eat Chipotle for every meal. While we were home for the holidays, he drove from our hometown of Asheboro (where a Chipotle is currently under construction) to High Point, Greensboro or Winston-Salem multiple times for the coveted burrito.
Brunswick County residents who have made similar trips to Wilmington (which has two Chipotle locations) and back to eat at the Mexican chain could soon get their burritos, bowls, quesadillas and more in Leland. Preliminary plans indicate the nationwide chain is considering Brunswick Forest for its first location in the county. Here's what to know.

In other development news, Brunswick County has moved its Utility Billing Division to a new home: a former bank site on Old Ocean Highway that previously operated as a BB&T (now called Truist). Here's what to know about the change and how you'll be impacted.
Needed beach improvements in Bald Head Island mean the village is considering another bond. Renee Spencer has the story.
The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will see various closures across the next several months due to a preservation project. Once that project is complete, another road project will begin impacting Brunswick County. Here's what to know.
Remembering George Beatty Jr.
George Beatty Jr. was passionate about educating others about the importance of rice harvesting in Brunswick County by celebrating that aspect of the county's history . The N.C. Rice Festival -- with Beatty as the chair of its board of directors -- did just that.
Beatty died in December, but festival officials are determined to carry his legacy on. Here's the story.
