Child seriously injured when bicycle hit by pickup truck

A child was seriously injured Friday when the bicycle the child was riding was struck by a Silverado pickup truck in Sullivan Township, Ashland County.

The child had life-threatening injures and was taken by medical helicopter to Akron Children's Hospital, according to a news release from the Wooster Post of the State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened on County Road 681, near Township Road 350. The driver of the pickup truck, which was southbound on 681, was a 55-year-old Ashland man, who was not injured, according to the release.

The driver of the truck was arrested at the scene for operating a vehicle while under the influence, according to the patrol, which noted additional charges were pending.

Providing mutual aid at the scene were the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Sullivan and Polk fire and EMS departments and Aber’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
