There will be no milestone for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in Sunday’s regular-season finale.

The Chiefs announced about two hours before kickoff against the Chargers that Kelce had been ruled out for Sunday’s game.

That means Kelce’s season ends 16 yards short of an eighth consecutive 1,000-yard campaign. No tight end in NFL history has more than two straight 1,000-yard seasons.

There had been speculation that Kelce might be one of a few Chiefs regulars who would play Sunday because of the milestone. Earlier in the week, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t play against the Chargers — backup QB Blaine Gabbert would be the starter.

Kelce and Mahomes were on the inactive list, along with wide receivers Rashee Rice and Kadarius Toney, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, defensive end Mike Danna and offensive tackle Donovan Smith.

Rice, Toney and Sneed were listed out this week because of injuries.

Running back Isiah Pacheco, linebacker Nick Bolton, cornerback Trent McDuffie and defensive end George Karlaftis were listed as questionable on the final injury report, released on Friday.
