It was a scary moment for Chiefs Kingdom — and undoubtedly a painful one for Patrick Mahomes — late in the first quarter of Kansas City’s Divisional Round NFL playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Mahomes was sandwiched between two Jacksonville defenders and appeared to have his right leg rolled up on. He ran to the bench and gestured to the leg, but then returned to the field to finish out the first quarter with the Chiefs.

On the ensuing play, a second-and-6, Mahomes had to hop to get the ball to running back Jerick McKinnon on a handoff. The Chiefs handed the ball off again on third down, and Mahomes was noticeably favoring his ankle after the play.

He threw a short pass over the middle to end the quarter in a 7-7 ballgame, again appearing to put little weight on his right leg.

During the quarter break, Mahomes received attention from trainers, per The Star’s Herbie Teope. Mahomes also got his right ankle taped before returning to the field.

The second quarter started with Mahomes completing a short pass to Skyy Moore for no gain, then short-arming a pass for an incompletion before Harrison Butker booted a 50-yard field goal.

The Chiefs went up 10-7 on the kick early in the second quarter. The NBC cameras caught Mahomes throwing his coat down in frustration before jogging back to the locker room, presumably to get his right ankle or leg looked at.

Chad Henne entered the game at quarterback for the Chiefs after a Jaguars punt.

The Chiefs announced that Mahomes had a right-ankle injury and was questionable to return to the game.

Mahomes came back in after halftime to lead the opening drive of the third quarter. The Chiefs eventually had to punt.
