Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes turned down an invitation to speak at Tom Brady Roast

Tom Brady had some regrets about being the subject of a celebrity roast earlier this month because jokes about his divorce affected his kids.

Among those who took their shots at Brady were Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart, Peyton Manning, Nikki Glaser, Tony Hinchcliffe and a number of Brady’s former teammates.

One other person was invited but declined to attend: Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“I will definitely be staying away from the roasts,” Mahomes said Thursday on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “They actually asked me to go to it and I was like, ‘Man, I just can’t even believe that this is happening.’ But there was some funny moments in there. I will give that. The comedians did a good job. But roasts, I mean, there’s no rules.

“You kind of just have to go out there and just sit there and listen to everybody talk trash about you. So I will stay away from that throughout my lifetime and try to just stay on the straight and narrow.”

While Mahomes won’t be the subject of a roast, he believes teammate Travis Kelce could give it a try.

“They might be able to get Travis,” Mahomes said. “They might be able to get him.”

McAfee said if Kelce agreed to a roast then Mahomes would have to be there because they’re a tag team.

But Mahomes noted that Rob Gronkowski was the butt of a ton of jokes at the Brady roast.

“I don’t know though,” Mahomes said. “I don’t know. Gronk was getting almost as bad as Tom was on the roast. So I don’t know if I can even be there if Travis goes.”

Mahomes the matchmaker

Taylor Swift’s fans like to talk about an invisible string that has connected Kelce and Swift.

Well, here’s a new one.

Chiefs fans know that in the “13 seconds” game against the Bills, the game-tying drive included a pass from Mahomes to Kelce that set up a field goal at the end of regulation. Before the snap, Mahomes urged Kelce: “Do it Kels!”

Mahomes used those same words last summer when Swift’s Eras Tour stopped in Kansas City. It was then that Kelce tried to get a friendship bracelet to Swift, sparking their romance.

“I like to take some of the credit,” Mahomes said on McAfee’s show. “I was the one who invited Travis to the first Taylor concert with the friendship bracelet. He was sitting in my suite. I feel like I was the matchmaker.

“I had some input in there as well. I was like, ‘Dude, just go for it, just go for it.’ And you know Travis, man. He does it and he’s a great dude, and I’m glad it’s worked out for the best.”
