Chiefs’ L’Jarius Sneed’s interception Sunday came on a bittersweet anniversary for him

There’s no perfect game for Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to intercept a pass. Heck, he’d be happy to get a pick each week.

But Sneed’s interception Sunday in the Chiefs’ 34-28 win over the Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver came when he happened to be wearing a microphone.

More importantly for Sneed, that interception came a year after his older brother, T’Qarontarion “TQ” Harrison, was stabbed and killed during an incident on Dec. 10, 2021 in Minden, Louisiana, according to police. He was 32.

Sneed told The Star’s Sam McDowell last year that Harrison helped raise him until Sneed turned 6 years old, so there was a special bond between the two.

The Chiefs shared a video Thursday featuring a mic’d-up Sneed from Sunday’s game. He actually predicted he’d get the interception that came when Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien was throwing a pass when he hit by Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones.

The ball popped up in the air and Sneed caught it.

In the video, Sneed told teammates on the sideline why that interception meant so much to him.

“I’ll just admit,” Sneed said in the video, “that today was the day my brother died last year.”

A teammate told Sneed he should keep the ball, and Sneed said he planned to do just that.

Here is the video.
