Former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb had an old friend join his “Five Spot” podcast this week, and the conversation steered away from football.

McNabb told Chiefs coach Andy Reid that he looked lean and wondered if Reid was doing something different in Kansas City.

“Yeah, I’ve been doing some vegan barbecue,” Reid quipped as he and McNabb laughed.

McNabb asked: “Now what would that entail, coach, for all our listeners or viewers?”

Reid smiled and said: “Yeah, so like tofu with a little barbecue sauce on it and a roll. Now you know that’s a lie. I still want to get into heaven so I can’t be telling lies.”

Earlier in the conversation, McNabb asked if Jack Stack was still the place to go for barbecue in Kansas City.

Reid said there are too many barbecue spots to mention.

“I haven’t found one I haven’t liked. That’s a problem. They’ve all kind of got their specialty. You know, they’ve all got something special about (them) and so you can try any of them. I can keep you busy for a long time.”

Taylor Swift history

Given how the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance has become such big news, McNabb said he was annoyed to have to ask it: Is Reid a “Swiftie”?

Reid had joked about setting up Kelce and Swift after her first trip to a Chiefs game.

“Like you, I knew her from Philadelphia. Her dad is a big NFL fan so I had met her when she was real young and her dad,” said Reid, who as Eagles coach drafted McNabb in 1999. “I joked about setting Kelce up, but um, you know, I’m just saying.”

The two laughed once again.

McNabb said Swift “looked confused as to what’s going on” while sitting in a suite at a game.

“She’s a good girl,” Reid responded. “She’s into it. And we’re glad she’s here.”

Love for Chiefs fans

Reid was asked about the sports atmosphere in Kansas City, and he talked about how much he loves Chiefs fans and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

“They’re crazy. It’s loud,” Reid said. “It’s an older stadium but the acoustics are like crazy. The fans are right on top of you and things get tremendously loud. So I love it. I mean, I love the fan base. It’s probably as close to college as you’re going to find.

“Just the tailgating, these guys get here at 4 in the morning and line up at the gate and start doing I guess breakfast dogs or something. But they start early and get those barbecues going, throw them in the back of their pickup trucks and drive in a few hours before the game. So it’s quite an experience here.”

Reid also talked football and you can listen to the interview here.
