A Chicago sports team reportedly is planning to make Milwaukee its home for a night in 2024

For the second time in three seasons, the Chicago Blackhawks reportedly will make Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum their home for a night.

The Blackhawks are set to play the St. Louis Blues in an exhibition game Oct. 5 at the Milwaukee Bucks’ home arena, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday, citing an source it did not identify.

The team played against the Minnesota Wild – owned by Racine native Craig Leipold – at Fiserv in 2022. That game sold out in minutes.

“One of the reasons we chose to come here is because we knew we had a great fan base, a great hockey fan base here and a great Blackhawks fan base in Milwaukee,” Jaime Faulkner, the Blackhawks president of business operations, said that day. “We shouldn’t have been surprised, but we were instantly thrilled when it sold out the way it did.”

More than 80% of orders came from buyers with Wisconsin ZIP codes and just 7% from Illinois, she said.

The game blended two worlds, with famed national anthem singer Jim Cornelison getting the crowd going as he does at the United Center and the Bucks’ DJ Shawna and mascot Bango putting their stamp on the night.

Although an abundance of Blackhawks fans helped draw the franchise to Milwaukee, the crowd included a fair number of Wild supporters and plenty in Nashville Predators gear. The Predators are the parent club of the Milwaukee Admirals' AHL franchise, and fans of both teams were hoping the next NHL game in Milwaukee would involve Nashville.

Admirals owner Harris Turer has said he’s a fan of having the NHL in town, regardless of the teams.

“Just in general anytime hockey happens and gets attention, that’s good for us,” Turer said in 2022. “People are paying attention to the game. We’re the hockey team in town, so if there’s an event here, even though we’re not playing, anytime hockey is played in the community it brings attention and that’s positive.”

Fiserv also has hosted a four-team holiday college hockey tournament showcasing the Wisconsin Badgers.
