Chevy Confirms 450-Mile Range for Silverado EVChevrolet

America is the land of "more," and that's reflected in our upcoming EVs. Chevrolet announced today that it's achieved an EPA-rated 450-mile range for the Silverado EV in 4WT trim. That's not quite the 500 miles RAM is aiming for with the 1500 REV, but that vastly exceeds the 320 miles of the Ford F-150 Lightning and the 328 miles of the Rivian R1T.

Per our colleagues at Car and Driver, the Silverado 4WT's 450 miles is enabled by a monster 215-kWh battery pack that uses the same Ultium architecture as GM's other EVs. It's identical to the battery pack in the GMC Hummer, which means it weighs nearly 3000 pounds on its own. Car and Driver says the 4WT weighs around 8500 pounds, slightly less than the 9000-plus-pound Hummer.

The 4WT uses an electric motor at each axle to provide 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque. With this drivetrain, Chevy says the maximum payload is 1440 pounds and tow rating is 10,000 pounds, and a later fleet-only version of the EV will double the tow rating to 20,000 pounds. Soon after launch, Chevy will offer a 3WT version of the Silverado EV, which promises a 350-mile range.

Fleet customers will be the first to get their hands on the Silverado EV 4WT, though they won't be cheap. Chevy says the starting price is $79,800. Eventually, however, the company will offer Silverado EVs for as low as $50,000. But, the first Silverado EV to reach individual consumers is the $106,985 RST First Edition. Chevy confirmed that truck will have a 400-mile range, and one assumes the lower figure is result of the RST's much greater output of 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque.
