Chester: Three Leg Run Brewery competes in World Beer Cup in Las Vegas, wins award
CHESTER — Three Leg Run Brewery-Winery-Meadery competed in the World Beer Cup recently in Las Vegas. Owners Melissa and Steve Clayton returned winners! At the most prestigious beer competition in the world, the partners in business and life won a silver medal for their "Working An Angle" English Ale.
"Steve and I can't thank our taproom family and fan club enough for all the support for the last two years of success," Melissa posted on Facebook. "I guess we need to get that back on tap."
"One of my first thoughts upon winning - besides being crazy excited and proud - was that I know what I'm brewing as soon as I get home. Of course, when I got home, I realized that I was missing the main hop used in that brew," Steve said.
The hop has been ordered and "Working An Angle" will be brewing soon.
"Even though this beer style is English strong bitter, it's not bitter in flavor at all. It's certainly not in the IPA bitter realm. It's an easy-drinking beer," Steve said.
In the English Ale category, Popoli, Italy-based Mezzopasso's "Red Stone" won a gold medal, and Munster, Indiana-based Three Floyds Brewing's Gumballhead took home the bronze. The World Beer Cup known as "the Olympics of Beer" is held annually in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America. The Awards Ceremony took place at The Venetian on April 24. As of April 5, the following statistics were available for the 2024 World Beer Cup: 9,300 entries, 50 countries, 2,060 breweries, 110 categories, 290 judges from 37 countries and 300-plus volunteers.
"There were 11 medals won by nine Virginia breweries," Melissa said. "Three Leg Run was the only Central Virginia winner."
