Cher and Boyfriend Alexander Edwards Have Glam Red Carpet Date Night at 2024 Cannes amfAR Gala

The superstar will take part in a special musical moment at the star-studded benefit on May 23

Since the Cannes Film Festival activities kicked off last week, stars have been pulling out all the style stops on the red carpet and at the buzzy parties. But admittedly, we've been missing a dose of Cher’s flair.

On May 23, the “Believe” singer, 78, touched down in Cannes, France, to attend the amfAR Gala at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc and brought all the style we've been waiting for — and her boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, 38.

For the evening, Cher rocked an all-black look, with a black floor-length gown with a skirt that had sheer panels, and she covered up with a fur coat and accessorized with fingerless gloves and platform heels. She wore her signature black hair in a crimped-style. Edwards matched her in style and energy with a black suit and white button-down.

For the event, Cher will take part in what has been teased as a special musical moment. Nick Jonas and Jess Glynne are also expected to perform at the benefit hosted by Demi Moore. The night will include a live auction with luxury items — and a walk-on role in Emily in Paris — and fashion show by Carine Roitfeld as well.

“I have such wonderful memories of being invited to host one of the first amfAR events in Cannes by my friend Elizabeth Taylor,” the icon said in a statement reported by Variety. Cher co-chaired the benefit in 1996 and was later honored by the nonprofit with the Award of Inspiration in 2015.

“I am extremely proud to be returning for this event’s 30th anniversary, and to continue to support the incredible work of this organization. It will be a very special evening.”

The annual amfAR Gala, first instituted in 1993 by Taylor, who was the founding international chairman, raises funds for the Foundation for AIDS Research’s educational, prevention, advocacy and research HIV/AIDS programs.

Cher’s appearance comes three days after her 78th birthday on May 20.

While attending the premiere of the Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion documentary last week, she told multiple outlets how she really felt about getting one year older.

"[I'll be] putting my pillow over my head and screaming," Cher told Entertainment Tonight of her plans.
