Chase Elliott in the Daytona 500: Results, career record, close calls in NASCAR's top race

Chase Elliott's burgeoning NASCAR Cup Series career has already yielded 18 Cup victories and a Cup Series title.

But not yet a Daytona 500 victory.

Elliott is 0-for-8 in the Daytona 500, not quite at the levels of Waltrip, Earnhardt or Kyle Busch in the lore of Daytona 500 droughts. But Elliott has already had two prime chances to win the Daytona 500, falling on the wrong side of luck.

What is Chase Elliott's Daytona 500 record?

Elliott has not won the Daytona 500 in eight tries, with Monday's race being the ninth attempt to win the Great American Race.

Has Chase Elliott had any close calls at the Daytona 500?

Elliott has had a couple. He led late in the 2017 Daytona 500 before running out of gas with three laps to go.

Elliott also finished 2nd to Michael McDowell in the 2021 Daytona 500 as the race finished under caution after a hard crash by the rest of the leaders. Had the yellow flag been held, Elliott may have had a chance to take the lead before the finish line, but the wreck was hard enough that it required the immediate caution.

Elliott has won two 500 poles but not the race itself.
