'Charlie Chaplin's Smile' to feature orchestral works by the iconic actor

Jan. 9—Acclaimed violinist Philippe Quint will perform "Charlie Chaplin's Smile" with the Santa Fe Symphony on Sunday, Jan. 14.

Hailed as a "classical music's superstar" by NPR, Quint will take the Lensic Performing Arts Center stage in a critically-acclaimed multimedia program featuring orchestral works by the iconic actor.

Interspersed with rare video footage and still imagery, the program will include works by composers who inspired Chaplin's musical style, including Johannes Brahms, Igor Stravinsky and George Gershwin.

The music includes Claude Debussy's "Clair de Lune," Stravinsky's "Tango 1940," Gershwin's "Promenade Walking the Dog" and Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 5."

The production was inspired by Quint's 2019 album "Chaplin's Smile" and has appeared throughout the U.S. as well as Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Russia, Israel, Romania, Switzerland and Norway.

With multiple Grammy Award nominations to his name, Quint is celebrated for his distinctive approach to classical core repertoire, advocacy for contemporary music, rekindling of neglected repertoire, and pioneering of an original music in context multimedia format.

Quint plays the 1708 "Ruby" Antonio Stradivari violin, which is on loan to him through The Stradivari Society.

Born in Leningrad, in the former Soviet Union, Quint immigrated to the U.S. in 1991, where he earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from The Juilliard School, graduating in 1998. He is now an American citizen.
