Charli XCX is set to make her acting debut in an upcoming horror remake. The 'Beg for You' singer has been cast in a reimagining of the 1978 cult classic Faces of Death, coming from Legendary Pictures.

The Wrap reports that Charlie XCX will be starring alongside Stranger Things' Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery, who are also known for Euphoria and the 2017 Power Rangers movie, respectively.

Production on the film is currently underway in New Orleans, with Daniel Goldhaber directing and serving as co-writer alongside Isa Mazzei.

In a statement, the duo said: "Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online."

The viral element that Goldhaber and Mazzei are referring to is the fact the film is presented like a documentary chronicling some of the most gruesome deaths of the time. While a lot of the footage was fake, some of it was actually real, and that led to it becoming both controversial to the point of being banned in some territories, and a word-of-mouth hit.

Since singing her first record deal in 2010, Charli XCX has released five studio albums, including last year's UK chart-topper 'Crash', as well multiple EPs, singles and collaborations.

Meanwhile, Dacre Montgomery made a surprise return cameo appearance as Billy in Stranger Things' season 4 finale, and has since signed on to star in another horror film, Went Up the Hill.

The latter focuses on a young man who was abandoned as a child who travels to a rural area of New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother, where he meets her widow. Things get spooky when the ghost of the late mother starts haunting them both.

Faces of Death is yet to receive a release window.
