Charles Is Enlisting Big Help to Get Harry and Meghan to Come to His Coronation, Apparently

Today in Anonymous Updates About the Royal Family Feud: King Charles reportedly wants Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to come to his coronation so badly that he's taking some pretty serious steps to try to make it happen. Not personally, of course, because, based on anonymous insider intel, almost no royal family interaction seems to happen directly.

According to a new report from the Daily Mail, instead of making a call or dusting off an old WhatsApp or iMessage chat with Harry, Charles has reportedly tapped Justin Welby—aka the damn Archbishop of Canterbury—to "broker a deal" to get the Sussexes to attend the coronation in May (well, to get them to attend without serious risk of his oldest son, Prince William, spontaneously combusting mid-ceremony, anyway).

"The issue of substance is whether they attend the Coronation, and if they do, under what terms and conditions," a source said of the alleged deal-in-progress. "The family is split, and all the indications are that Harry is being advised to agree to nothing at this stage and 'play it long' right up to the last minute, which is making negotiations with him very difficult."

The "split" in this case seems to be most prominent between Charles, who wants Harry and Meghan at the coronation badly enough that he's apparently doing the closest thing possible to straight up asking for a miracle, and Will, who seems to want the exact opposite almost as badly.

Their respective motivations, according to the Daily Mail's current crop of unnamed sources, aren't surprising to anyone who follows royal gossip at all, honestly. Charles is reportedly worried that Harry and Meghan will pull more focus from the actual coronation if they skip it than if they attend, while Will is apparently worried that Harry will co-opt the event to pull a "stunt" of some kind (no details, tragically, on any theories Will might have about possible #SussexStunts).

As for where Harry and Meghan stand on the issue, the biggest hurdle standing between them and a "yes" RSVP seems to be their royal titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

"Harry's camp made clear that the idea that he would just attend the Coronation and behave himself but then be stripped of his titles was a total non-starter," the Daily Mail source added. "While he might decide at some point to discard his titles of his own volition, he objects to the idea of being forcibly stripped of them."

So, basically, it sounds like the Archbishop of Canterbury just needs to get Charles to pinky promise not to forcibly strip any titles, Harry to pinky promise not to pull any "stunts," and Will to pinky promise not to explode in a fireball of anger during any photo ops and we *couldmaybepossibly* just be in for a royal reunion this spring.
