The Philadelphia 76ers are the latest NBA juggernaut to flop in a pivotal playoff game, and Charles Barkley thinks they deserve every ounce of criticism they’re currently receiving.

Wednesday night was supposed to be a night in which the Sixers finally got rid of their demons and put the NBA world on notice. For the first three quarters, they were on track to do so. Then, a dreadful fourth ensued.

The Hawks outscored Philly 40-19 in the fourth to take the pivotal Game 5 as the series now heads back to Atlanta. It was an embarrassing effort from the Sixers. It wasn’t so much that they simply lost, it was how. No Philly player, including Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, wanted to touch the ball in the fourth, and it ultimately led to their epic collapse.

Barkley called the Sixers’ loss a “choke job” Wednesday night during NBA on TNT. He’s right, too. If the Hawks go on to win Game 6 and, subsequently, the series, Philly’s Game 5 loss is going to sting a while.

“This was a complete choke job,” Barkley said Wednesday night.

Take a look.

While most of Philly’s fourth quarter issues came on the offensive side of the ball, it’s interesting to note Charles Barkley thinks the Sixers defense cost them the game.

This was supposed to finally be the Sixers’ year. If they can’t get past a Hawks team that, while talented, is still young and inexperienced, it may finally be time to blow things up and rewrite the roster.

Tune into ESPN on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET to catch the Sixers and Hawks battle it out in Game 6.
