The Florida State women's basketball team begins March Madness this evening in a matchup that would fit right into college football season.

No. 9 seed FSU faces No. 8 seed Alabama in the first round of the women's NCAA Tournament. The winner advances to face either No. 1 Texas or No. 16 Drexel on Sunday.

The Seminoles (23-10) finished the season 9-3 after struggling in January. Coached by Brooke Wyckoff, FSU boasts the No. 19 scoring offense in the nation (78.6 points per game), led by the All-ACC tandem of sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson and junior forward Makayla Timpson. An injury forced Latson to miss last season's NCAA Tournament, which ended with a first-round loss to Georgia.

The Crimson Tide (23-9) finished fourth in the SEC but lost their conference tournament opener to Tennessee. Coached by Kristy Curry, Alabama is fueled by senior guard Sarah Lee Barker, who leads the team in scoring (17.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.4 per game). Bama lost forward Jessica Timmons, their third-leading scorer, for the rest of the season to an injury during the SEC Tournament.
