STEVENS POINT – Changes are in store for Big Lots in Stevens Point.
A Big Lots company spokesperson told the Stevens Point Journal last month the company has been pleased with the community response to the new Stevens Point store. The spokesperson said as the company studies sales patterns, Big Lots will adjust what items are offered at the store to bring more value to the area.
“As we continue to aggressively source high-quality bargains and buyouts, it’s important to us that those opportunities are available to our customers in Stevens Point and some adjustments to that location may happen this year as a result,” the spokesperson said.
One example is Hearthsong’s brand of children’s toys. Earlier this year, Big Lots acquired Hearthsong’s entire inventory of children’s toys. The Big Lots company spokesperson said customers have been excited about the company’s limited-time offering of the brand's toys at prices 50% to 70% less than other retailers.
Changes and enhancements at the Stevens Point store will be added and designed to bring more value to Stevens Point customers, the spokesperson said.
The Stevens Point Journal asked the company to clarify rumors that Big Lots Home would become a regular Big Lots store. The company spokesperson and other company officials did not respond to numerous emails during the past month, and employees of the local store said they could not comment.
While Big Lots Home offers living room, dining, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and office furniture and other items, along with cleaning supplies, lighting, rugs, pet supplies, home décor and seasonal items, a traditional Big Lots store offers additional departments like sports and outdoors, grocery, toys, beauty and personal care and household essentials.
The Big Lots website lists the Stevens Point location as offering furniture, mattresses, furniture leasing and delivery, Bissell rentals, as well as milk, eggs and other grocery items.
Big Lots opened Big Lots Home in November at 5601 U.S. 10 E. and held a grand opening celebration in early December. The Stevens Point store opened with an expanded selection of home décor and furniture, along with products for the entire home, categorized by rooms in vignettes throughout the store.
The store joined Dunham’s Sports in the former Walmart site. Ross Dress For Less and Five Below both opened last fall at the same site.
