Chambersburg's Zach Stinson headlines local finishers at Boston Marathon

For the third time in the last four years, Zach Stinson, of Chambersburg, Pa., was the men's champion in the handcycle division at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The 34-year-old completed the 26.2-mile course in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 47 seconds to win by nearly five minutes in the field of 41 handcyclists. It was his best performance at the Boston Marathon by more than seven minutes.

Stinson, a double amputee, lost his legs after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan while serving with the Marines in 2010.

He began competing in marathons in 2012 and won his first Boston title in 2021. He prevailed again in 2023 and repeated as champion on Monday.

Local runners at Boston

Ten Tri-State area runners also completed the 128th edition of the prestigious race, which had 25,538 finishers.

They included, in order of finishing time:

• Michael Day, 42, of Chambersburg, in 3:16:32, placing 6,030th overall and 999th out of 2,007 in the men's 40-44 age division.

• Bryan Seifarth, 40, of Hagerstown, in 3:18:31, placing 6,519th overall and 1,049th out of 2,007 in the men's 40-44 division.

• Rachel Stone, 29, of Chambersburg, in 3:22:21, placing 7,475 overall and 1,175th out of 4,653 in the women's 18-39 division.

• Laurie Dymond, 58, of Chambersburg, in 3:24:41, placing 8,097th overall and 10th out of 876 in the women's 55-59 division.

• Katie Thompson, 35, of Charles Town, in 3:27:32, placing 8,840th overall and 1,571st out of 4,653 in the women's 18-39 division.

• Megan McCarthy, 41, of Harpers Ferry, in 3:32:02, placing 10,041st overall and 424th out of 1,610 in the women's 40-44 division.

• William Marquiss, 55, of Hagerstown, in 3:42:40, placing 12,586th overall and 650th out of 1,529 in the men's 55-59 division.

• Ethan Connelly, 26, of Sharpsburg, in 3:46:51, placing 13,550th overall and 3,594th out of 4,849 in the men's 18-39 division.

• Nicole Diller, 40, of Shippensburg, in 4:34:44, placing 20,549th overall and 1,327th out of 1,610 in the women's 40-44 division.

• Heather Burns, 43, of Waynesboro, in 5:17:15, placing 23,710th overall and 1,488th out of 1,610 in the women's 40-44 division.
