Chainsaw Man announces new movie in place of s2Sony Pictures

A Chainsaw Man movie is on its way, continuing Denji's story from season 1.

The news was announced at Jump Festa 24 — the annual manga and anime convention held in Tokyo — with the official X/Twitter account for the anime confirming this and sharing a first teaser and a poster.

Titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, the upcoming project from studio MAPPA serves as a further instalment in the anime adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto.

The clip accompanying the announcement sees protagonist Denji spending time with a young woman named Reze, who briefly appeared at the end of season 1. Fans of the manga will be familiar with Reze, as she's featured in a more prominent capacity in Fujimoto's volumes.

The poster for the film also focuses on Reze, who's lying naked in a field, covered only by some flowers.

Having debuted at the end of 2022, the first season of Chainsaw Man was hailed by Digital Spy as "the most violent show we've seen all year".

Our review praised the expertly choreographed, hyper-graphic violent scenes, writing: "We're dealing with a protagonist whose primary power is turning his head and arms into chainsaws, so you'd expect some blood and gore, but Chainsaw Man pushes it to a whole other level."

Consisting of 12 episodes, the first season of Chainsaw Man follows teenage boy Denji, forced to kill demons for the Yakuza to repay his father's debts.

Aided by doglike devil Pochita, Denji is transformed into the titular Chainsaw Man after a major event and subsequently introduced to an elite government agency, the Public Safety Devil Hunters.

Chainsaw Man is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
