Celtics reveal why Kyrie Irving wasn't at Game 7 vs. Cavs

Where in the world was Kyrie Irving?

That's what inquiring minds wanted to know as the All-Star star point guard — who had been seen cheering on the Celtics during previous playoff games — was notably absent as his former team ousted his current one during Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told reporters Monday, a day after Cleveland defeated Boston 87-79, that Irving was recovering from nasal surgery.

"Kyrie had a deviated septum, had some surgery on that, and so I don't think he wanted to be seen," Ainge said after the team's exit interviews. "He's a really good-looking guy. He can't ruin his movie career."

Irving's agent, Jeff Wechsler, said that his client's recovery didn't allow him to fly, though he wanted to be there.

"It was a residual from the facial fracture he had earlier in the season," Wechsler told ESPN, referencing the November injury. "He had the knee surgery, and now he's taken care of this sinus surgery, so he will be all set going forward."

Irving underwent a couple of knee surgeries in March and April, ending his season. The Celtics also played almost the entire season without Gordon Hayward, who also attended some playoff games. Irving had reportedly been working out in Boston, and Hayward in Indiana.

Meanwhile the Cavs, who clawed their way out of an 0-2 series deficit, will face either the Warriors or Rockets in the NBA Finals as LeBron James makes his eighth straight appearance.
