Stars of Celebrity Gogglebox offered a new twist to a classic television theme tune, with the cast warming up their vocal chords.

Tonight’s episode (June 30) saw the famous faces begin with an instalment of Antiques Roadshow, with The Royle Family duo Sue Johnston and Ricky Tomlinson mimicking the iconic theme tune.

Comedians Babatunde Aléshé and Mo Gilligan also offered their thoughts on the song, with the former saying: “Don’t you just feel like you’re riding a horse on this one? Just galloping.”

Gyles Brandreth, who was appearing on the sofa alongside Countdown vocabulary extraordinaire Susie Dent, noted: “If you want to lift your melancholy… Antiques Roadshow.” Models Munroe Bergdorf and Leomie Anderson also had fond words for the BBC series, with the latter saying: “Antiques Roadshow just reminds me of my grandma - she used to love it.”

The rest of the episode saw the cast watch Elton John’s farewell UK performance at Glastonbury, Idris Elba’s new Apple TV+ show Hijack, reality series Below Deck and comedy film Cocaine Bear.

The cast in tonight’s episode also included ex-footballers Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards, Masterchef judge Gregg Wallace and Radio 1 host Greg James, Denise Van Outen and Duncan James, and Happy Mondays members Bez and Shaun Ryder.

Whilst the cast for the series is inundated with stars, one famous face who hasn’t returned is Sheila Hancock, with the actress revealing earlier this year that she had been sacked from the Channel 4 show.

“I used to love doing it with Gyles [Brandreth], but they sacked me from that. Well, they did not ask me back,” she said. “I think it was because there were a lot of shows with penises in, and because it went down [well] with the audience, they kept showing them to us.

“Eventually I phoned up the lady on the edit and said, 'I am enjoying the show, but do you think we can have anything other than penises?’ and she was quite angry,” she added.

Gogglebox airs and streams on Friday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.
