Cardi B, Bette Midler and other stars react as pro-Trump rioters storm U.S. Capitol

The whole world watched as right-wing zealots stormed the U.S. capitol Wednesday with hopes of stopping lawmakers from certifying the election of President-elect Joe Biden amid baseless conspiracy theories of election fraud promoted by the outgoing president. The chaos didn’t go unnoticed by the Americans who inspire and entertain the nation.

Few people were busier on Twitter than singer and longtime Donald Trump critic Bette Midler, whose tweets can’t all be published in a family newspaper. The “Wind Beneath My Wings Singer” took a page from the president’s playbook and wrote one PG-rated tweet all in caps, then wrapped things up with an exclamation mark.

“YOU CALLED FOR THIS INSURRECTION. YOU ARE 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS,” the Divine Miss M tweeted. “DON’T TRY TO HIDE BEHIND FAKE RHETORIC AND SUDDENLY PRETEND YOU DIDN’T! WE HEARD YOU, AND YOU ARE A TRAITOR!”

She also retweeted pundit Bill Kristol’s call for Trump to be impeached again, immediately.

Horror writer Stephen King called for the president to diffuse the situation by admitting he lost the election and recognizing Biden’s victory.

“The only thing that might stop this is for Donald Trump to concede the election,” he wrote.

President Trump eventually told supporters who descended on the Capitol to go home, but continued pushing the the election fraud rumors that led to Wednesday’s troubles.

King also retweeted support for Trump to be impeached for his role in the attack on the Capitol.

Actor Michael Rapaport ranted that the MAGA supporters who raided the nation’s Capitol would have been treated differently if they were black protesters.

“This is a f---king shame!” he said in a video in which he’s watching the chaos unfold on television. “I don’t like to throw around the race sh-t — (but) look at this sh-t! This isn’t a Denny’s, this isn’t a Burger King, this is the Capitol — the Capitol building of the United States!”

Singer Cardi B was wondering the same thing as she looked back on the Black Lives Matter protests following the death of George Floyd while in police custody.

“The irony is pretty funny.........weren’t people just wild animals in the summer for demanding justice and now?” the Bronx-bred superstar asked. “Let me just watch.”

“The Tonight Show” bandleader Questlove noted that Black Lives Matter protesters never raided the U.S. Capitol, stormed the floor and made themselves at home.

“Make no mistake: if this was Black Lives Matter protest? Y’all think BLM in Pelosi’s chair wouldn’t have been dealt with?” he said.

The drummer also called for Twitter to shut down the president’s account so he can’t incite more chaos.

Even Captain America felt the villains who raided the Capitol were treated rather gently in comparison to the “thugs” President Trump lambasted in the aftermath of Floyd’s killing.

“I’m speechless,” actor Chris Evans tweeted. “Just think of the carnage had they not been white.”

Comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who like Midler has a long-running feud with President Trump, wants to see the president hauled off by the police.

“Arrest Trump now,” she tweeted.

O’Donnell also called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. That would relieve President Trump of his duties and put Vice President Mike Pence in charge during the final two weeks of the Trump administration.

Actress and activist Alyssa Milano retweeted the president himself in calling for the people who stormed the Capital to be held accountable.

“Remember when Trump Tweeted this?” she wrote, followed by a Trump tweet from July calling for “Anarchists, Agitators or Protesters who vandalize or damage” federal buildings to be sent to prison for a minimum of 10 years.
