A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for fallen Corpus Christi police officer Kyle Hicks.

Community members who want to pay their respects are invited to attend the funeral service at the First Baptist Church at 3115 Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi.

An End of Watch was held April 24, the night that Hicks died of injuries sustained while responding to a call on April 20 for a domestic disturbance and shots fired at a Southside apartment complex.

Police said 26-year-old Colten Foster pulled a gun, shot and wounded Hicks when they apprehended him at the door of his apartment. An assisting officer killed Foster at the scene.

Hicks was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, and a GoFundMe was set up by fellow police officer Denise Pace to support his family by raising money for any medical expenses.

Since the officers' death, police officers and volunteers have come together to organize memorial vigils and commemorative watches for the fallen officer.

Volunteers from the Corpus Christi Southside Runners and Team BlueLine gathered at Water's Edge Park along the bayfront around 6:30 p.m. on April 29 to participate in an honor run for Hicks. They wore blue shirts and athletic wear and carried blue-lined American flags to demonstrate solidarity with officers in uniform.

Hicks leaves behind a wife and four children. He worked with the Corpus Christi police for two years. He was an organ donor.
